Touchstone and FHIR Testing at DevDays 2017

Back in January of this year at the HL7 FHIR Connectathon 14 held in San Antonio, TX, I began discussing with the folks from Furore the possibility of presenting at their upcoming FHIR DevDays 2017 event. This was after my Saturday morning breakout sessions at the Connectathon where I gave short 60-minute “FHIR Overview” and “Intro to Touchstone and FHIR Testing” presentations to a standing room only group of 40+ attendees – nearly 25% of all attendees. At the Connectathon 15 event in Madrid, Spain I once again gave my Connectathon Saturday morning breakout sessions and again had a full house in the breakout room. After that, the folks at Furore approached me to present at DevDays 2017 with a more formal presentation of my “FHIR Overview” as well as a much more in-depth “Touchstone and FHIR Testing” set of sessions – Intro and Advanced. What could I say but, “Yes!”

Ok. I now knew what I would be working on over the Summer and, as it turns out, on into the Fall. 🙂 My main focus was to actually begin work on our [AEGIS] official tutorial for “Touchstone and FHIR Testing“, a 2-day intensive hands-on training to introduce the basics of testing with Touchstone and using the FHIR TestScript resource. I’m happy to say we’re ready to go now with that training and I’m set to start working on our next course, “TestScript Authoring“, which should be ready sometime early next year (2018).

One of the side benefits of working on “Touchstone and FHIR Testing” is that it provided me with the necessary material for my Furore FHIR DevDays 2017 sessions – “Test Driven Development I – Intro” and “Test Driven Development II – Advanced“. The DevDays presentation format is a bit different than a traditional full day training so, some judicious editing and re-construction of the material was in order. Plus, the exercises were re-done to better suit the all afternoon Hands-On sessions where I can spend more one-on-one time with the attendees. You can find the full schedule for DevDays here – https://www.fhirdevdays.com/amsterdam/schedule – and my sessions are under the “FHIR Testing” Track.

I will have to admit that when I started my journey with FHIR over 4 years ago, I never thought I’d be developing and delivering training at one of the premier FHIR events – now only a few days away. I have to say I’m pretty excited and really looking forward to being part of this event. To those who will be there, I can’t wait to see you and safe travels. To those who won’t, don’t worry – there’s always next year’s DevDays as well as many other FHIR events where we can meet up.
